how to keep inflatable pool water clean

  • #1

Yesterday we got a 10foot blow-up pool for the garden. What can I use in it to keep it germ free, as I really don't fancy refilling it every other day?

I used a small net to lift all the debris out, and the pool actually came with a cover and a small filter pump - so the water stays free of bugs and grass etc.

Just want to make sure it is also free of germs. Would mild-bleach be ok? Or what about swimming pool chlorine? (Would either of these cause the rubber/plastic to perish?)

Thanks for all the replies!

I think the tablets are going to be the best option. Meanwhile I will use bleach until I get the tablets. I've used bleach to purify drinking water in the past (must be at the correct safe mix ratio), so it shouldn't be an issue in a pool. Unless anyone has any reason for me not to do this...

some peoples skin may get irritated slightly by it dependant on how much - though only slight possibility

I've just bought a sachet of cleaning fluid from B&Q but i'm wary of using it having read the warnings - lethal to fish (don't have fish), keep away from water courses, drains, grids etc - how are you supposed to drain the pool?! Also danger to plants etc (this could nuke the garden within a radius of 20ft) - anyone else use these or are chlorine tablets best?

Put it in toxic barrels and bury it ;)

Chlorine tablets eventually dissipate and it's safe to water the garden with it at that point. Unfortunately the best way of knowing the chlorine has dissipated and the water is safe is when it starts going green :suicide:

I can let you know where i get mine from, but you seem to have plenty of leads already.
